# Where AI agents pay off first in your company

By the Codivated team

Most companies don't need an AI strategy deck. They need to know which job to hand to an agent first, and how they'll know it worked.

## Start where the work repeats

The best first agent does a job your team does dozens of times a day, the same way each time: answering order status questions, matching invoices to purchase orders, qualifying inbound leads. Repetition means the rules already live in people's heads. Our job is to write them down and turn them into an agent your team can check.

## Look for work that waits

A lead that waits a day goes cold. An order with a bad address that waits a day ships late. When most of a task's cost is the delay, an agent that works at 9 pm on a Sunday pays off fast.

The first agent should be boring. Boring means repeatable, measurable and easy to trust.

## Keep judgment with people

Agents should handle the routine and route the unusual. Before we build anything, we agree what an agent can do on its own and what needs a person, by dollar amount, customer or type of action. Every action is logged, so you can see what each agent did, when and why.

## Four workflows we look at first

- Order exceptions and status questions. High volume, clear rules, and customers notice the delay.

- Invoice matching and collections. Errors are expensive and the checks are well defined.

- Inbound lead qualification. Speed to respond decides who wins the deal.

- Customer follow-up and renewals. Easy to forget, and the revenue is already there.

## Agree the measure before you start

Pick one number up front: hours returned, response time or revenue influenced. Measure it during the practice run, when your team still approves everything. If it doesn't move, stop there. If it does, you have the case for the next agent.
